Medtech Innovator hosts its first pitch competition in Colorado

DENVER — Medtech Innovator, a nonprofit global competition and accelerator for medical-device and health-technology companies, is hosting one of its pitch events in Colorado for the first time.

The Colorado Bioscience Association is partnering with Medtech to host a regional pitch event on April 19, where companies can compete to join the MedTech Innovator Class of 2017.

The bioscience association reached out to Medtech and requested to host the pitch competition after Fort Collins-based Green Sun Medical, which created a specialized spinal alignment brace, won last year.

Empowering communities

Rocky Mountain Health Plans (RMHP), part of the UnitedHealthcare family, has pledged its commitment to uplift these communities through substantial investments in organizations addressing the distinct needs of our communities.

“The industry is growing,” said Tom Borak, communications and membership manager for the Colorado Bioscience Association. “The bioscience industry is funny in that companies are often in eight to 10 years of development. There’s a good gestation period companies have to cover. But now we have a handful of our companies on the cusp of breaking through.

Borak said applications have closed and finalists are now being selected. Only eight companies will be allowed to pitch to judges, which includes investors and senior executives from companies like Johnson & Johnson, BD and Baxter.

Last year, Green Sun won $200,000 from Medtech Innovator and a $25,000 Johnson & Johnson Innovation JLABS Award.

The pitch event will take place 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, at the University of Denver, Engineering and Computer Science Building. Attendees can view the regional showcase, as well as network with industry professionals.
