MILLIKEN — Burnco Rock Products Ltd. has acquired Bestway Concrete Co., a Milliken-based ready-mix concrete and aggregate producer serving Northern Colorado and metropolitan Denver. Burnco is based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

“We are extremely pleased that Bestway is joining the Burnco family” Michael Powell, Burnco’s chief executive,, said in a prepared statement.  “The combination of Burnco and Bestway will create a stronger company, with an exciting future. We are also excited to be expanding into the vibrant Colorado economy, where we see tremendous growth potential.”

Hahne said the Burnco and Bestway were “very similar” in how they’re run, given that they’re family-owned businesses. He said Bestway is expected to grow from its current 200-plus employees.

“I would certainly expect expansion,” he said. “We bought Bestway to grow the position.”

Hahne expressed optimism about the growth potential along the Front Range, particularly in Northern Colorado.

“It’s where the market’s growing,” he said, adding that Bestway’s president, Gene Wagner, is “looking at a number of markets” for expansion.

“He’ll be in charge of helping us grow the business,” Hahne said.

Bestway was founded in 1981 and operates nine ready-mix concrete plants and four aggregate pits. The company provides ready-mix concrete and aggregates for a broad range of applications, including commercial, residential, industrial and infrastructure developments.

Wagner said in a prepared statement that “Bestway management and employees are pleased to be joining the Burnco family, and we look forward to a strong future together.”

Burnco Rock Products is a fourth-generation family business established in Calgary in 1912 by James F. Burns. The company has operations across Western Canada and in Texas, supplying ready-mix concrete, aggregates, asphalt and landscape supplies to a broad range of valued customers.
