RLE receives patent for tech behind facility-monitoring system

FORT COLLINS — RLE Technologies Inc. in Fort Collins has received a U.S. patent for the technology behind its facilities-management system.

The system, called Delta View, provides a visual representation of buildings, sites and equipment monitored by the company’s environmental-monitoring devices.

Don Raymond, RLE’s chief technology and co-inventor of the new system, said accurate and timely monitoring of facilities systems has become more difficult as they grow in size and complexity.

In preparation for Republic Services becoming the primary provider of residential recycling, yard trimmings, and trash, residents should now select the best cart size and service schedule for their household needs.

He said Delta View allows managers to quickly identify which device is the source when an alarm occurs and gives them the opportunity to solve a problem before it can cause downtime.

The system combines a “nesting” feature that allows a system of facilities-management devices and sensors to be networked through linked map images. The visual links change state to report the existence of alarm conditions that allows users to quickly analyze data from their connected equipment and immediately locate the sensor or networked hardware that has activated the alarm.

The new patent also covers the company’s mapping technology and a variety of its leak-detection solutions.

Interactive mapping allows users to upload a graphic, such as a facility map, to the management system and pinpoint the location of monitoring tools, which can include sensors, leak-detection cable points and other hardware devices. When alerts from these devices and points are activated, facility managers have a clear idea where the alarm is located and can rapidly respond to and address the problem.
