Broomfield continues program to aid commercial building owners

BROOMFIELD — Enhance Broomfield, a program developed in 2015 to provide funding assistance to business and commercial building owners in Broomfield that are looking to make exterior improvements, is continuing into 2017.

Broomfield has approximately $165,000 allocated to Enhance Broomfield for this year. Applicants are eligible to receive up to $25,000 in funding per project, although availability is on a first-come, first-served basis. Funds obtained through the program may be made for improvements made to existing stand-alone commercial or industrial buildings or centers.

Since June 2015, 14 projects have been funded, totaling approximately $236,000 in awards under the program, leveraging more than $463,000 of private-sector funding.

Mike Van Den Bosch, senior economic development specialist with the city and county of Broomfield, said the program was designed to help improve the appearance of commercial properties in Broomfield by assisting small businesses that generally have limited funding.

Broomfield’s mayor, Randy Ahrens, said Broomfield’s city council is “very pleased with the impact that Enhance Broomfield has had on our commercial and industrial districts over the last year and a half. Since its inception, we’ve seen roughly $2 of direct investment for each $1 of funding that we’ve allocated to the program.”
