Boulder Brands issues recall for pair of vegan products following complaints

BOULDER – Boulder Brands Inc. over the weekend issued a voluntary recall of a pair of vegan Earth Balance products after consumer complaints of dairy contamination.

The recall covers all packages of Earth Balance Vegan White Cheddar Mac & Cheese and Earth Balance Vegan Cheddar Mac & Cheese with 2017 expiration dates.

A Boulder Brands spokesperson said she didn’t have exact figures on the number of complaints, and company officials weren’t immediately available for comment on Monday.

But company officials, in their announcement of the recall, stated that “several” consumers reported allergic reactions that suggested the presence of a dairy allergen in the products, which were distributed nationally.

The recalled products include a code embossed on the bottom of the package. Those with a 17 in the code are included in the recall. Consumers who have the products can return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Questions can be directed to Boulder Brands at 1-888-299-7646.

Boulder-based Boulder Brands was acquired earlier this year by New Jersey-based Pinnacle Foods, and is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Pinnacle.
