Growe Foundation hires Wow! Children’s Museum founder as executive director

LONGMONT — Lisa Atallah, founder of the nonprofit Wow! Children’s Museum in Lafayette, has taken the job of executive director at the Growe Foundation, a nonprofit based in Longmont that educates children about healthy food choices by growing gardens.

Atallah, who founded Wow! 16 years ago, will replace Bryce Brown, founder and executive director of the Growe Foundation, at the first of the year. Brown will return to his native New Zealand to address the health and environmental issues affecting children there.

Brown has devoted the last 10 years to developing the Growe Garden to Table program, which pairs school gardens in Boulder Valley Schools with age-appropriate teaching curriculum. The foundation serves 19 schools in six cities and has reached an estimated 48,000 students through garden-based learning.

Atallah grew Wow! Children’s Museum to be a hands-on learning experience for children and families in the areas of arts, sciences, life and other subjects through exhibits children can play with, touch, and discover. The museum draws about 80,000 visitors per year.

Since retiring as executive director of Wow! in 2012, she has provided organizational management and fundraising services to local nonprofit organizations through her consulting firm, Spark Fund.
