Region’s October unemployment remains steady

DENVER — Unemployment remained mostly steady across the four-county region in October, with none seeing a change of more than one-tenth of a percentage point from September.

The latest figures for Colorado were released by the state’s Department of Labor and Employment Friday morning, with statewide unemployment dipping from 3.6 percent in September to 3.5 percent in October. The state added 6,000 nonfarm payroll jobs over the month, bringing the total increase over the past 12 months to 64,100.

Locally, Boulder County’s unemployment rate in October was 2.5 percent, followed by Larimer at 2.6, Broomfield at 2.8 and Weld at 3.

Boulder County’s rate ticked upward one-tenth of a point from September but was down from 2.6 percent in October of last year. The county had 179,666 people employed and 4,617 looking for work.

In Larimer, the October rate was also up one-tenth of a point from September and down one-tenth from October of 2015. Larimer had 183,583 employed and 4,957 seeking jobs.

Broomfield’s jobless rate in October was down one-tenth of a point from September and unchanged from a year earlier, with 35,198 people employed and 1,031 seeking jobs.

Weld’s unemployment was unchanged month-over-month at 3 percent but was down two-tenths from October of last year. The county had 150,034 people employed and 4,647 looking for work.

The state’s largest private-sector job gains during the month came in education and health services; trade, transportation and utilities; and leisure and hospitality. The biggest declines were in manufacturing.

The national unemployment rate in October was 4.9 percent, down one-tenth of a point from a year before.
