Groundbreaking for UNC’s Campus Commons slated for Oct. 22
GREELEY — The University of Northern Colorado will conduct a groundbreaking celebration for the $73.6 million Campus Commons, Oct. 22, as part of Homecoming weekend.
The event, open to the public free of charge, will be held at the site of the new building in the University Center south parking lot, near the intersection of 11th Avenue and 22nd Street. The ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
The celebration will include remarks by UNC president Kay Norton, UNC provost Robbyn Wacker, UNC Board of Trustees chairman Dick Monfort, and UNC student senate president Brandon Miller. UNC’s Pride of the Rockies marching band will also perform.

WomenGive, a program of United Way of Larimer County, was started in Larimer County in 2006 as an opportunity for women in our community to come together to help other women.
Funding for the 114,000-square-foot project is coming from state capital funds, bonds supported by a student capital fee and private donations, including a $500,000 gift from the Salazar Family Foundation.
The Campus Commons is scheduled for completion in 2018 and will provide an integrated support hub for students and will serve as
home base for admissions counselors, campus tours, new-student orientation, study-abroad programs, international-student support, career services, community and civic engagement, and alumni relations.
The building will house a 600-seat performance venue designed to address curricular needs of the university’s music program. It will will include an art gallery to showcase student work and travelling professional exhibits, a 400-seat multiuse auditorium, a student-run café, ticket office and interactive displays for visitors.
