Boulder PR firm Meld merges with Echos Brand Communications

BOULDER — Local public relations and marketing firm Meld Strategy + Communications is merging with Echos Brand Communications, a similar but larger company with offices in San Francisco and Portland, Ore.

The move gives Echos, which specializes in the technology, cycling and outdoors/active lifestyle sectors, a presence in downtown Boulder that is expected to grow over the next six months.

Meld founder Matt Bennett said Echos will absorb Meld’s clients, while Bennett will take an ownership stake in Echos as one of four partners. Bennett will run Echos’ new Boulder office at 1245 Pearl St., just above the former Boulder Café space where Capital One bank is building out a new branch.

Ways to thank a caregiver

If you have a caregiver or know someone who has been serving as a primary caregiver, March 3rd is the day to reach out and show them how much they are valued!

The union has been some time in the making.

Prior to returning to Boulder for a stint at Metzger Albee Public Relations, Bennett had spent 10 years working in public affairs in Washington. The Boulder native and University of Colorado grad founded Meld in 2014, focusing on the tech and outdoors scenes locally.

Rob Reedy, who founded Echos in 2009, graduated from CU with Bennett, and the pair’s companies had already been collaborating on certain projects in recent years.

“We had talked about a partnership for a long time, and in the last month or so, we started working on some clients together and formalized the details of the partnership,” Bennett said. “The client base very much appeals to me.”

Bennett had been running Meld by himself, with the help of a handful of contractors. But he joins a firm in Echos that has about 20 employees among its three locations, one that will instantly add to the resources available to his Meld clients.

Bennett moved into the new digs this month after running Meld out of Galvanize’s Boulder campus. He said the plan is to add two to three full-time employees locally in the coming months.

“I was really excited to build a bigger enterprise, be part of something bigger,” said Bennett, who declined to disclose revenue of the two firms. “It’s tough being a solopreneur. After awhile, having a broader team … of that caliber, I’m really excited.”
