Weaver’s Dive and Travel to host scuba industry expo in Boulder

BOULDER — Weaver’s Dive and Travel Center in Boulder is hosting an event for scuba divers this weekend that will feature 45 equipment manufacturers, dive operators and dive resorts from around the world to provide first-hand knowledge to divers and people interested in diving.

Additionally, the two-day event, Sept. 10-11, will feature maritime photographer Stephen Frink. He will speak at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday. His career spans nearly four decades, working as a photographer for Skin Diver Magazine, Scuba Diving Magazine and Alert Diver Magazine. He will share stories of his most fascinating assignments.

The event at 637-V South Broadway is free and open to the public. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday.

“Colorado has a large population of divers, and this special event is especially tailored for people who have been diving for a long time, and those who are just now thinking about giving it a try,” said company founder Steve Weaver, who takes clients on as many as 15 escorted dive trips every year. “The dive industry as a whole is worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and people love to experience the rush of going somewhere exotic, and experiencing the beauty of the world’s oceans. As we enter the fall months, people start planning their dive trips, so they can escape winter for a week or two, and swim with the fish.”

At the event, exhibitors will be on hand to speak to people about their destinations and products. Representatives from Indonesia, Fiji, the Bahamas, Mexico, the Cayman Islands, Roatan, Bonaire, Curacao, The Florida Keys, Turks & Caicos Islands, St. Croix, The Philippines and St. Lucia will be on-hand.

More than $30,000 worth of trip and gear door prizes will be given away during five daily door prize drawings.

There will be free educational seminars daily by the representatives from each of the companies present.

Everything in the store will be on sale for the two days.
