WhiteWave Foods posts gains in 1Q earnings, revenue

The WhiteWave Foods Co. (NYSE: WWAV) saw sales rise 10 percent in the first quarter, reaching $911 million, up from $830 million during the same period last year.

At the same time, net income rose 3 percent to $33 million, up from $32 million during the same period last year.

The strong earnings report sent the company’s stock higher to close at $46.10, up 5.44 percent.

In a prepared statement, CEO Gregg Engles said, “The first quarter was a very strong start to the year as we delivered double-digit topline growth, strong operating performance and better-than-expected earnings per share of $0.24, even with higher levels of marketing investments, and an additional one cent reduction to our EPS in the quarter due to greater than expected currency headwinds.”

Headquartered in Denver, with significant operations in Boulder County, WhiteWave manufactures an array of natural and organic food products and beverages, including Silk, So Delicious, EarthBound Farm greens and Horizon Organic dairy products.
