Rocky Mountain National Park turns 100

One of the region’s main tourism drivers, Rocky Mountain National Park, on Wednesday kicked off a yearlong celebration of its 100th anniversary.

The 415-square-mile park opened Jan. 26, 1915.

A kickoff ceremony on Wednesday afternoon is the first of many special events honoring the park’s history coming up over the next 12 months.

Ways to thank a caregiver

A kickoff ice cream social will be held Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Hidden Valley. Those who wish to attend will need to board a shuttle bus from the Fairgrounds Park-n-Ride at 1170 Manford Ave. in Estes Park. Buses will run from noon to 5 p.m.

The Longs Peak Scottish Irish Festival, from Thursday to Sunday in Estes Park, is another of the 20 or so events planned for September alone.
