Aims goes green with new classes, certificate

GREELEY – Aims Community College will launch a new environmental construction program this fall with a two-class certificate in Green/Sustainable Building.

In the Renewable Energy Construction class, students will be introduced to solar construction techniques, terminology and materials. A Green and Sustainable Buildings class will cover topics such as zero-net building, passive thermal architecture, super insulation and renewable energy sources for heating, cooling and electricity. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, criteria will also be covered.

“This is where the industry is going,´ said John Mangin, department chair. “Sustainable building is not just environmental, it’s economical, too.”
