Marostica appointed director of state Economic Development office

LOVELAND – Rep. Don Marostica, R-Loveland, has resigned his seat in the Colorado General Assembly to become the new Director of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade. Gov. Bill Ritter announced the appointment Thursday afternoon at a news conference in his office.

“At this crucial time in Colorado’s history, getting Colorado moving is our priority,” Ritter said. “The businesses of Colorado will be well served with Don Marostica.”

Marostica succeeds Don Elliman, who recently became the state’s first chief operating officer, a new position created to oversee federal stimulus spending.

Ways to thank a caregiver

If you have a caregiver or know someone who has been serving as a primary caregiver, March 3rd is the day to reach out and show them how much they are valued!

“The most pressing issue facing all of us is to get through these difficult times. The best way to accomplish that is by creating more jobs and attracting more businesses and more trade to Colorado,” Marostica said in accepting the position.

Marostica, who has represented House District 51 for three years, served as the House Republicans’ member on the Joint Budget Committee. He was often at odds with fellow Republicans over last year’s budget and his co-sponsorship of a bill that successfully removed its 6 percent cap. Marostica has been an advocate for fiscal reform and part of the Long-Term Fiscal Stability Commission, which is examining every aspect of the state budget process to recommend changes for the next session.

Democrats supported the bipartisan appointment. “We applaud Gov. Ritter’s willingness to look for partners across the aisle to find solutions that help our state,” Adam Bowen, chair of the Larimer County Democratic Party. “Mainstream Coloradans need an individual focused on improving Colorado.”

Marostica has turned over control of his company, Loveland Commercial Inc., to his partner and son to avoid conflicts of interest.

Marostica’s legislative seat must be filled within 30 days by a vacancy committee of the Larimer County Republican Party. Whoever is selected will serve until next year’s general election. House Minority Leader Mike May, R-Parker, will appoint a member of the Republican caucus to fill Marostica’s JBC position.
