State tax collections fell 12 percent for February sales

DENVER – State taxes collected on February sales were down 12 percent from one year ago, according to figures released Tuesday by the Colorado Department of Revenue’s Office of Research and Analysis, while the amount of net taxable sales fell 13.7 percent.

Slightly more than $131.5 million in state sales taxes were collected in March on net taxable sales of $4.6 billion in February. This compares to $149.3 million collected in March 2008 on sales of $5.3 billion in February 2008.

February retail sales also fell year-over-year, but by only 10.1 percent — to $9.8 billion from $10.9 billion in 2008.
