Larimer medical society offers free discount drug cards

The Larimer County Medical Society is offering free discount drug cards in an effort to ease health care costs.

The LCMS Physician’s Rx Discount Drug Card is available to anyone, regardless of age, income or health care coverage. It can be used at more than 55,000 participating pharmacies and offers average discounts of 15 percent on brand name drugs and 46 percent on generic drugs. According to a press release from LCMS, it can save as much as 75 percent on some generic drugs.

The card can also be used for over-the-counter items including smoking cessation products and diabetic supplies, as well as for vision products from JC Penney, hearing products from Beltone and up to 70 percent off lab testing and imaging/diagnostics from LXD.

“The card is a way for LCMS physicians to help fight the increasing costs of health care,´ said LCMS Executive Director Clint Skutchan. “Our doctors chose to pursue this program as a way of improving outcomes from visits and to give back to the community that they care so much about.”

Skutchan said the idea to offer the drug discount card came from other medical societies in the state that are already having success with similar programs.

The cards will be available at doctor’s offices throughout Larimer County and from the Fort Collins and Loveland chambers of commerce. They can also be printed online at www.larimermedicalsociety.org.
