Unemployment rate drops for Weld, Larimer counties
The unemployment rate in Weld and Larimer counties dropped slightly in March from the previous month and held steady for the state as a whole, according to a report from the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment.
Larimer County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dipped from 4 percent in February to 3.9 percent in March, while Weld’s seasonally adjusted unemployment dropped to 5.6 percent in March from 5.8 percent in February, the report showed.
Colorado’s rate held steady from February through March at 4.4 percent.

While the slight drop in Larimer and Weld counties was encouraging, unemployment in both counties and the state was significantly higher than in March 2007, the report revealed. In March 2007, Larimer’s unemployment rate was 3.3 percent, Weld’s stood at 4.7 percent and Colorado’s rate was 3.7 percent.
The state’s March 2008 jobless rate is the highest since 4.5 percent was recorded in May 2006. Across the state in March, 22 counties reported higher unemployment rates from the previous month while 21 posted lower rates and 21 counties showed no change.
