1-800-GOT-JUNK? expands

BOULDER — Lillianne Wallace and Lorn Powell, the sister and brother partners of the Boulder-based 1-800-GOT-JUNK? franchise, are expanding the company’s presence in Fort Collins and Greeley. The junk removal company has added a third truck to its fleet to better cover the territory.

“We’ve been able to service our northern territory only a couple of days each week. With the new truck we’ll be able to cover all of our territory six days a week. We’ve added two team members and will add two more in April when things start getting busier,´ said Wallace.

The company will take away items from homes and businesses that city garbage haulers won’t remove.

In Colorado, 1 in 3 women, 1 in 3 men and 1 in 2 transgender individuals will experience an attempted or completed sexual assault in their lifetime. During April, we recognize Sexual Assault Awareness Month with the hopes of increasing conversations about this very important issue.

The price tag on a new truck, which operates as a driving billboard with its bright green, white and blue lettering, is $50,000. With revenues close to $268,000 last year, the owners project revenues of $380,000 with the additional truck.

The franchise currently covers the territory from Superior to the Wyoming border to the north, and includes Boulder, Erie, Loveland, Fort Collins and Greeley. Wallace and Powell own 11 territories, each containing 62,500 people.

“We’re average size for a franchise,” Wallace said. “But we’re one of the larger franchises in Colorado. The new truck is key in terms of providing the service we have to in keeping with the company’s policies. For example, when someone requests our service we guarantee a truck will arrive within a particular two-hour time slot no matter what.”

Started in 1989 as The Rubbish Boys by Brian Scudamore, the Vancouver-based company became 1-800-GOT-JUNK? in 1997 and has grown to more 300 locations in four countries, with three franchises in Colorado.
