Tracy, Sinatra: UCCC tribute up in the air

Tim Tracy?s sudden resignation last week as president of the Greeley/Weld Chamber of Commerce might leave a hole in the Union Colony Civic Center?s spring schedule ? or not.
After his resignation Tracy, the singing-est chamber-of-commerce guy in the whole darn state, said he wasn?t sure whether his one-man tribute to Frank Sinatra would hit the stage as planned March 6.
The performance would be the second in his ?Concerts of the 20th Century? series.
?Twentieth Century Broadway,? or so the Eye hears, was pretty well received by a loyal cadre of Tracy fans who heard his renditions of Broadway standards.
The Eye hopes Tracy, who plans to remain in Northern Colorado, and UCCC will keep ?The Life and Times of Frank Sinatra? on the playbill.
Old Blue Eyes is about as intimidating as cover material can be for an amateur singer. But Tracy doesn?t even flinch.
?It?s not an imitation,? Tracy said in an interview prior to the news of his departure. ?I?ve got a voice of my own. I will have accompaniment done in the style in which Sinatra did these songs. But it?s my voice.?
Tracy has become something of a Sinatra expert over the years, voraciously reading biographies like daughter Nancy Sinatra?s ?An American Legend? and ?The Way You Wear Your Hat: Frank Sinatra and the Lost Art of Livin?? by Bill Zehme.
?Nancy?s book, kind of a diary of her life with her dad, is packed with stuff that you can only get from someone who was there,? Tracy said.
What about the music?
??Let Me Try Again? is my favorite,? Tracy said. ?It?s one a lot of people don?t know. It?s on the ?Old Blue Eyes is Back? album. ?One for My Baby.? It?s the ultimate saloon song. ?I?m a Fool To Want You,? written for Ava Gardner. ?My Way.? It?s a song he didn?t care for personally. He?d get on stage, and mock it, then sing the hell out of it.?
Look for Tracy to give ?My Way? his best shot, too, by singing it his way.
