Pedestrian Shops starts annual shoe drive

BOULDER — Donating food may be the traditional gift of giving during the Thanksgiving holiday, but Boulder’s Pedestrian Shops is encouraging people to donate their slightly used shoes instead.

“People buy shoes for aesthetic purposes, and then leave them under their beds and in closets,´ said Richard Polk, Pedestrian Shops’ owner. “We can help put the shoes to good use, and people feel good about their donation.”

Customers who donate a pair of shoes will receive an additional 10 percent discount on any new pair of shoes, boots, slippers or clogs, including sale items, during the 14th annual Thanksgiving Shoe Drive. Shoe collection will begin Monday, Nov. 21, and end Sunday, Dec. 14. All shoe types and sizes will be accepted.

Empowering communities

Rocky Mountain Health Plans (RMHP), part of the UnitedHealthcare family, has pledged its commitment to uplift these communities through substantial investments in organizations addressing the distinct needs of our communities.

The Pedestrian Shops holds a similar shoe drive in celebration of Earth Day in April.

During the past 13 years, the business has collected more than 12,000 pairs of shoes, and will try to add 500 to 1,000 pairs this year. The footwear will be given to Boulder’s First Presbyterian Church and other assistance organizations throughout Boulder County.

Shoe donations can be dropped off at either of Boulder Pedestrian Shops’ locations, 1425 Pearl St. or 2525 Arapahoe Ave.
