Lucky’s Market closes Longmont liquor store in wake of Kroger investment

Boulder-based natural-foods grocer Lucky’s Market’s investment from Kroger Co., has caused the closure of Lucky’s liquor store in Longmont.

The Times-Call reports that the closure is due to Colorado’s law permitting retail chains only one full-service liquor license in the state. Lucky’s Liquor had operated at 700 Ken Pratt Blvd., next door to the chain’s Longmont grocery store. Kroger already operates a store with a full liquor license in Glendale.

The paper reports, however, that the forced closure of the Longmont liquor store does not indicate whether Kroger’s investment in Lucky’s was for a majority stake or not since any size of investment would have triggered the move.
