17 NoCo employers commit to providing electric-vehicle charging

FORT COLLINS – Seventeen Northern Colorado-based employers Tuesday committed to offering electric vehicle charging stations at the workplace.

The employers made the announcement at Spirae, which is introducing charging access for its 39 Fort Collins-based employees. The equipment will be partially powered by brand new solar panels to be installed at the business in the next few weeks as part of Spirae’s overall plan to provide a net-zero-impact facility.

The following employers committed to offering charging stations within the next six months or already offer charging: Brinkman Partners; City of Fort Collins; Colorado State University; Brendle Group; Woodward Inc. (Nasdaq: WWD); New Belgium Brewing Co.; Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE: HPQ); Odell Brewing Co.; Platte River Power Authority; Fort Collins Mitsubishi; Dellenbach Motors; Davidson Gebhardt; Tynan’s; Co’s BMW Center;  Spirae; Colorado Clean Energy Cluster;  and Ken’s Muffler & Brake.

Most vehicle charging occurs either at home or at work, so workplace charging remains an important step in increasing widespread electric vehicle adoption, according to Drive Electric Northern Colorado. Representing a coalition of companies in the electric-vehicle supply chain, the organization chose to focus its efforts in Northern Colorado after a nationwide search of cities.

More than 175 employers nationwide have committed to providing their employees with readily accessible electric-vehicle charging, according to the organization.
